Whatever the event is…wedding, bar/bat mitzvah, family reunion, anniversary, new baby, birthday party, sweet sixteen… you want to remember it in the most natural and wonderful way possible.
How do you know who is best to capture the day the way you want to remember it?
Here are a few things to look for:
First- You should make an honest connection with your photographer. It is always a good idea to talk with them. Email can be too impersonal for such a significant event. She/he needs to understand what you are looking for and be more than able to provide that. This person will have the responsibility of capturing this day, so you will need to trust them. This is an intangible necessity. You will know it when you find it.
(Also, check out their reviews and see what previous clients have to say.)
Second- Make sure that the person you meet and get to know is the person you will see at your event. There are some studios that will send a replacement and “forget to inform you”. If a substitute is necessary, make sure you know who they are, that your photographer will personally vouch for them, and that you can talk with them prior to your event.
Third- Most of the time, you get what you pay for. Price will come into play very quickly and you should be comfortable that you are not only getting what you want, but are able to afford it. Be reasonable in your expectations. If someone tells you that they can deliver everything you want at a price that is too good to be true, be skeptical. This may not be the event with which to go for the bargain. You cannot redo it or return it. We have all heard the horror stories…don’t be one.
These are the images you will keep for generations to come. It is really the only thing that will last a lifetime. So, if it costs a little extra to get exactly what you want, it will be worth it.
